Julia Lucille “Lucy” Lutz, 79, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016.
She was born September 27, 1936, in Decota, West Virginia to the late Kenneth and Melva Mary Carver Poe. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth A. Poe.
She was a graduate of St. Albans High School, Class of 1954, and participated in the reunion lunches. Lucy loved and was on the catering crew, as a server, at the Charleston Civic Center for over 50 years, where she continued to work surrounded by her many friends, up until the time of her time of her death. She was a member of the Gospel Word Quartet.
Lucy is survived by her husband, John R. Lutz, Sr., sons, John R. Lutz, Jr., William S. (Randee) Lutz, grandson, Travis Lutz, who was the love of her life, sister, Demarius (David) Walls, brother, Eugene (Sylvia) Poe, and several nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
Lucy never met a stranger, and was a dear friend to all; she was a longtime member of Rebecca Chapel Church, Dunbar and Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Charleston, during which she expressed her love of gospel music by playing the piano for many years. Last, but not least Lucy was the Number 1 fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers!
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, June 12, at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 1919 Bigley Ave., Charleston, WV 25302, with Pastor Ray Williams officiating. Private burial will be in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.
