John S. Holcomb, III 72, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2016, after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, John (Herky) Holcomb, Jr., and mother, G. Carmel Boggess Holcomb, both of Charleston.
John graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School Class of ‘62 and later joined the US Army serving in Vietnam and receiving the Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with device, and Sharp Shooter/Rifle. After graduating from WV State College Business School, he spent 26 years at WV State Tax Department as a compliance/auditing officer.
John was a loving father, brother, and friend, who enjoyed travel, golfing, ballroom dancing, music, and most of all, the New York Yankees.
He is survived by his loving family, brother and wife, Richard and Kay Holcomb of Cross Lanes, daughters, Robin Holcomb Young, and Karen Holcomb, grandchildren, Timothy John (T.J.) Boone, Sarah O’Brien, Samatha Slater, Alex Young, and 8 great-grandchildren, all of Charleston.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Dr., Dunbar, WV, Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend and celebrate John’s life.
