Alice Mae Vance

Alice Mae (Hunt) Vance, 92, of Charleston, WV passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019, after living a long and wondrous life enriched by many loving friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents Emmett Thurston Hunt and Loye Anise (Gandee) Hunt, her husband of 65 years, Charles Lee Vance, and a granddaughter Mary Beth Simmons.

Alice is survived by her brother Richard Hale Hunt, daughter Mary Anise (Charles) Simmons, son Charles Lee (Gayle) Vance, Jr., son John Thurston (Brenda) Vance, daughter Alice Elaine Landon, and grandchildren: Meredith Mullin, Mallory McIvor, Charles Vance III, Thomas Vance, John Vance Jr., Megan Koch, David Welsch, William Landon VI, Chase Landon III and 14 great grandchildren.

Alice graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1944. She worked for C&P Telephone, Becks Upholstery, and Keiffer’s Interior Design.  Alice was a long time member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Canaan United Methodist Church.  She was a member of the United Methodist Women and volunteered at the Canaan UMC Food Pantry. While living in St. Petersburg, FL Alice attended and volunteered at St Luke’s United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, January 31, at Canaan UMC, 401 Roane St., Charleston, WV 25302 with Pastor Paula Napier officiating. Private burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank Sherie Estes for all her devoted love, care, and affection that she provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Canaan UMC Food Ministries at 401 Roane St. Charleston, WV 25302 or Hubbard Hospice House at 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
